Gilead Sciences is looking to hire a full-time eDiscovery Counsel located in Foster City, CA.
Specific Responsibilities and Skills
The eDiscovery group at Gilead seeks a highly skilled, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced and high-performing environment to join its team. Collaboration with the eDiscovery Technical Team, the Litigation & Investigations team, and other internal clients to support matters and projects is a key to success in this role.
Responsibilities include:
(i) Advice and counsel regarding all phases of the EDRM model and
(ii) Rapid response to complex requests for preservation, collection, and delivery of ESI and
(iii) Representation of Legal in cross-functional projects

The salary range for this position is: $199,835.00 - $258,610.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.

Essential Duties and Job Functions
The person in this position will, among other things:
- Provide guidance to in-house case teams and collaborate with outside counsel in the planning, organization, and management of eDiscovery matters from beginning to end.
- Support active litigation and investigation matters through managing the collection, processing, and delivery of ESI; and, through overseeing the review and production of ESI.
- Manage third-party providers throughout all phases of discovery.
- Work with Gilead IT groups and internal team members on eDiscovery-driven projects.
- Work with Gilead IT groups and internal team members on IT-driven projects.
- Manage the legal hold process and system.
- Manage preparation of output deliverables for review and/or production, including data extraction, deduplication, filtering, keyword searching, image conversion, branding, media preparation, labeling, tracking, delivery, and archiving.
- Implement eDiscovery system and process improvements with ever-changing technologies and best practices.
- Serve as a knowledge resource regarding all aspects of eDiscovery and overlapping cross-functional practice areas.
Basic Qualifications
- JD required
- 5+ years of eDiscovery experience within a law firm, vendor, and/or in-house setting
- In-depth knowledge of the litigation and discovery lifecycles
- Solid communication and organizational skills, with great attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to manage multiple matters and projects simultaneously
- Computer science undergraduate or other technical experience preferred
- Experience with DBMS, NUIX, Relativity, Concordance, networking architectures and protocols, TCP/IP, network security concepts, computer hardware, operating systems, and file systems
- Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry preferred
- Industry certification such as EnCE, CFCE, CISSP, CCE, CHFI a plus
